DROITWICH DIG: 50th ANNIVERSARY
It is hard to believe that it was 50 years ago, in October 1973, that the ‘Droitwich Big Dig’ started involving literally hundreds of volunteers with a massive amount of national publicity. The whole event ‘kick-started’ the Droitwich Canals Restoration project although some work had already been done particularly on the Barge Canal. Droitwich Canals Trust became the body in charge with support from so many other organisations including this society, Inland Waterways Association and many others.
‘Navvies’ magazine, at the time, covered lots about the dig. Three editions from around that time are available to download in PDF format.
